Co-Club Advisor
HOSA — Future Health Professionals, is an international organization that prepares students to enter the healthcare field. Minnesota HOSA, the parent organization, hosts competitions and leadership conferences where HOSA members can develop their skills and learn from certified medical practitioners in the real world. If they succeed at the state level, students can compete at an international level. HOSA offers various opportunities to its participants. Such opportunities include internships, shadowing professionals, first-hand experience in the medical field, and more.
- Meeting Dates: Biweekly- Tuesday mornings- 7:45 AM - 8:20 AM *We may host supplemental meetings during the school week for guest speakers and other events, such as study sessions or team competition practices.

State Leadership Conference

- Requirements:
- Attendance: General meetings are biweekly (Once every two weeks). While there is no attendance requirement at this time, we strongly recommend that all members attend as many meetings as possible to derive the most value from the program. Should students choose to participate in competitions, they must dedicate time outside of school to prepare individually or with their team. It’s estimated that the average student would spend one to two hours on Edina HOSA activities, including meeting attendance and personal preparation for conferences, per week. Opportunities found through Edina HOSA, such as volunteering or job positions may take up extra time, but aren’t factored in considering each student takes them up at their own discretion.
- Dress Code (Conferences & Competitions): Minnesota HOSA has a required dress code for all participants in conferences and competitions. It commonly consists of casual business attire. There are official HOSA clothes that contain the HOSA logo on them, and while participants are encouraged to purchase them, they’re not necessary. At most, members of Edina HOSA who are participating in conferences or competitions, are expected to have casual business attire.
- For general sessions, both males and females can wear the official uniform or a suit.
- For competitive events, the official HOSA uniform, business attire, medical scrubs, and polo & khakis are allowed. Certain events have specific dress codes.
(Please view this poster for more info on the dress code: HOSA Dress Code Policy)

American Mathematics Competition (AMC)
What is it?
The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.
The AMC 10/12 provides an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad.
The AMC 10 and AMC 12 each have an A test and a B test. Each test (A vs. B) is a different set of 25-questions on a different date but does not differ in difficulty. Students can sign up for one or both tests.
Edina High School traditionally has had multiple students qualify for the AIME competitions after doing very well on the AMC exams. Qualifying scores for the AIME are generally released in December or January.
When is it?
The AMC 10A and 12A competitions take place on November 8, 2023 at Edina High School.
The AMC 10B and 12B competitions take place on November 14, 2023 at Edina High School.
Who can participate?
The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below. Students in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10.
The AMC 10 is for students in 12th grade and below. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.
What material is covered?
The AMC 10 covers mathematics normally associated with grades 9 and 10. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. What are excluded are trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry.
The AMC 12 covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum, including the above as well as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry but excludes calculus.
For more information or details on how to register for the exam, please contact Matthew Minowitz via email or in Room E341 at Edina High School.

Quiz Bowl
Jenny Stone
Activity Advisor
Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge - including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more! There are also tournaments for individual players rather than teams.
The defining feature of Quiz Bowl is the use of a “buzzer system” that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. That element adds a dimension of confidence, anticipation, and rapid recall to a game about knowing facts. Those “tossup” questions are answered individually, but doing so earns one’s team a chance at a three-part “bonus” question. Bonus questions are worth more points and allow collaboration, but are generally more difficult.
Organized Quiz Bowl competitions are available in most states and at grade levels from middle school up.
- Meeting Dates: Wednesdays
- Meeting Time: 3:30 - 4:30 PM
- Meeting Location: EHS W311
- Registration Window: October 31
