The Edina High School Volleyball camp is for boys and girls going into grades 6-8 and 9-12 of any ability who want to improve and develop their skills on the court. Our goal is to give players a fun and positive learning experience as they meet new people and grow their abilities. Throughout the week, athletes will work on each core skill (passing, serving, hitting, blocking, and setting) through drills, activities, and games. Drills and activities are broken down into their basic components, paying great attention to detail and technique. We make sure to personalize and modify drills to fit ability so all players are challenged. All participants will get coach attention, game and team experience, and high school technique instruction.

Camp #1 - Edina High School Volleyball Camp (Grades 6-8)

All Captain's Practices are held in the EHS Activity Center

*Students interested in participating in Captain's Practices must fill out THIS FORM, and turn it into one of the captains at the first practice they attend.

 

Our season typically starts the third week in August before the academic school year begins. The season runs through the end of October - with a postseason to follow for Varsity.

Registration: Registration for the 2023-2024 Fall Season will begin on July 10, 2023.

• Students must have an up-to-date physical (within 3 years) on file with the Activities Office. Updated physicals can be faxed to (952) 848-3818 or emailed to Samantha Boyum.
• Students must also be registered through the EHS Activities Registration site.
• Student will NOT be allowed to participate in tryouts until both these are completed.

 

2023-2024 High School Tryouts:

*Players must attend all tryout dates. Our normal practice times will start 8/18 at 4:00 PM for all players selected on a team. 

**Players should always arrive a minimum of 15 minutes early to all tryouts and practices to ensure we can start on time. 

Grades 7-9:

• Dates: August 14 - 17

Grades 10-12:

• Dates: August 14 - 17
• Where: EHS Activity Center
• When: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Weekday Practices: Practices are held every weekday after school from 4:30 - 6:30 PM in the Edina High School Activity Center for Varsity, JV, and B Squad. Practices are in the Upper Gyms for 9A and 9B. Players should arrive at 4:00 PM to get warmed up to begin practice promptly at 4:30 PM.

Weekend Practices/Tournaments/Fundraisers: Refer to the Volleyball Team Calendar for weekend commitments.

Practice Protocol

• Be on time! Come early to be ready for the start of practice and help set up where and when appropriate.
• Practice uniforms will consist of black or navy spandex shorts and an appropriate t-shirt.
• Players are required to change in the locker room. All items must be left in a locker (if the player has one), or they can be set on the far side of the gym. Do not leave items in an unsecure place as players are responsible for their own belongings. Stuff cannot be left in the team room during the day - it is also used by other groups.  
• No jewelry.
• No cell phones.
• Water bottles should be filled and training room needs should be performed before the start of practice.
• Water breaks will be taken as a team. They are not a social time. Quench your thirst, return to the court.
• Report all injuries immediately to your coach. If you are injured, you should still attend practices.  
• All players must stay and help until all equipment is put away at the end of each practice.
• Do not bring your outside issues into our gym. Everyone has good and bad days. Please don't let it impact everyone.

Student athletes are expected to attend all practices and team events, even during an injury to help create a winning culture from within.

Excused Absences

• An absence is excused if the player notifies the coach and is approved well in advanced. 
• Absences are strongly discouraged as it disrupts the team dynamics, chemistry, drills, etc.
• Excused absences might include but are not limited to family emergencies, illness, medical emergencies, and special academic opportunities.
• Injury is not an excused absence. Injured players are expected to attend practice for rehabilitation and physical therapy with our training staff, unless it is predetermined with a coach.
• Work, vacations, or other non-school activities are not excused absences. 
• Athletes who miss the practice prior to a match with an excused absence may sit out at least one or more games of that match.

Unexcused Absences

• An absence is unexcused if the player does not notify the coach before the absence occurs, or does not provide the proper written documentation indicating the reason for absence signed by the parent/guardian of the player.
• If an unexcused absence occurs for a practice prior to a match, the player will not be allowed to play in that match (or more).
• If missing practices become habitual, then the coach and athlete will meet to evaluate the player's commitment to the program. During this meeting, they will discuss possible solutions, including dismissal from the team.
