Badminton

This meeting is for new and returning players.

Students do NOT need to be registered to participate in Captain Practices. They do however need to turn in a Captain Practice Waiver the first day they attend.

State Tournament: May 12-15th

Badminton is no-cut sport. We invite students grades 9-12 to tryout. Students in grades 7-8 may be considered depending on experience and skill level. Middle School students who are interested in trying out can find the "Middle School Exceptional Student-Athlete Registration Process" HERE.

Team Selection:

Varsity will consist of the top 10 players who:

• Show the greatest level of skill and scoring throughout tryouts and challenge matches.
• Consistently hit the birdie accurately.
• Understand the rules of badminton.
• Display a passion for the game of badminton.
• Are responsible and dependable players (attend all practices).

All students MUST be registered for prior to participating in tryouts. Find registration information HERE. *Registration begins on February 1.

Practice takes place Monday-Friday from 3:30 - 5:30 PM in the EHS Activity Center gym.

Chemical/Substance use: The Edina High School Chemical Policy will be followed. Please be aware that the first infraction consists of missing two weeks of matches. Make good decisions!

Absence Policy: Players are expected to contact their coach prior to missing practice. Failing to contact coaches may result in a player being held out of their next match.

School Work: It is your responsibility to make up any work you miss due to early dismissal from school for a match. Please talk to your teachers to set up a time to make up work.

Behavior: Players are expected to be honest and display proper etiquette on the court. Please report improper behavior to your coach if issues should arise.

Registration Fee: A $215 registration fee is set by and paid to the school.

Annual Car Wash: In order to support the end of year banquet, a car wash fundraiser occurs in May. There is a required number of tickets to be purchased, however with COVID-19, details are TBD.

Equipment gym shoes, black bottoms: shorts, skirts or legging, uniform jersey’s available for purchase, rackets available for purchase or we have rackets players can use.
